St. Thomas More School Newsletter
April, 1998
Can you believe that Springtime has come? Teachers and students have been serious about prayer, fasting, and almsgiving during this Lenten Season. Most classes have attended Mass one day a week and participated in Stations of the Cross and Benediction on Fridays. As a school community, we have stressed being kind and respectful to one another at school and at home. Many children have also been generous in their almsgiving to the Missions. We wish you and your families all blessings and happiness during the coming Easter Season!
Registration
Thank you to all who have returned their registration for the '98-'99 school year. It is essential to know enrollment soon because of planning for teachers, classes, books, etc. Thank you to many families who distributed flyers in the neighborhood. Remember, we will give your family a $100.00 tuition credit for  '98-'99 if you bring in a new family.
Tuition
April, 1998 tuition payments are now due. This is your last payment for the year.
Chocolate Sale
Thank you for your wonderful support. Our sale ends Friday, April 3rd. All students who sell at least one box of chocolate (25 bars), will receive a free ticket to the St. Thomas More Roller Skating Party on April 2nd. Parents are welcome, too.
Easter Bunny Breakfast
Sunday, April 5th. All are welcome
School Board Elections
Would you like to serve as a member of the St. Thomas More School Board? It is not too late to apply.
Computer Committee
We have some parents and teachers who are working together on our St. Thomas More Technology Plan. We hope to have a new Computer Lab with all the Internet capabilities up and running by next August. This will benefit all the students. Are you interested in serving on this committee? Our next meeting is on Monday, April 6th, at 7:00 p.m.

St. Thomas More has a new Home Page thanks to Mr. David Rodriguez, who has been creating it for us. Our website is http://home.att.net/~St.TM.

Parish Athletic Association (P.A.A.)
We have a small but very faithful number of parents who have given many hours to our boys and girls athletic program this year. We are presently in the process of making plans for next year. Would you like to help? We need you. Get involved in program planning for your children. The next meeting is Monday, April 6th, at 7:00 p.m., in the Quigley Room (basement of the Rectory).
State of Illinois Transportation Forms
They are now available in the school office. If you are qualified from the State as having a serious safety hazard, please come to the office to sign this form. They must be signed before the end of the school year.
State of Illinois Medical Forms
They are required for all incoming Pre-school, Kindergarten, and Fifth Grade students.
Report Cards
Report cards will be given out on Wednesday, April 8th. Teachers will be requesting conferences with some parents. If you, as a parent, wish to initiate a conference, please send a note to the teacher to set up a mutually convenient time.
Achievement Tests
New Terra Nova Standardized Achievement Tests were administered in grades 3, 5, and 7 in March. The results will be shared with the parents at the end of April
Talent Show
May 8th. You may want to start practicing your act during the Easter Break. The Student Council will have auditions the first week after Easter Break. More information will follow.
Manna Program
We have $10.00 gift certificates for sale at school for the following stores: Dominick's, Jewel, Kohl's, Venture, Burger King ($5.00), Cub Foods, Blockbuster Video ($5.00), Barraco's, Lagen's, Sears, Gino's, Pizza Hut, and Giordano's. Many other certificates can be ordered at your request including Classy Glitz and Glamour on Kedzie operated by Gregory and Terry Jones. Remember, the school buys the certificates at a discount and then sells them to you at face value. It is a painless way for you to shop at stores where you do business anyway, and for the school to make a profit. Many people have already gotten on the bandwagon and buy certificates weekly to do their regular shopping.
Market Day
Orders are due in school by April 9th or at the Church by April 12th. Delivery date for this month is April 21st.
Thank You
Many thanks to all who help with our fundraising activities. It all helps to pay operating expenses, purchase new science texts for next year, and equip our state of the art Computer Lab.
